Elroy Sprauve

Mr. Elroy Sprauve was born and raised on St. John. His childhood home was on Cruz Bay beach. He attended Bethany School, and graduated from Charlotte Amalie HS. His father, Julius E. Sprauve, was the first elected Senator from St. John.

Upon receiving his degree in Spanish and English from Thiel College in Greenville,  PA., Mr. Elroy returned to the Virgin Islands and taught at  Charlotte Amalie for two years, then began his long career as a Spanish teacher, Assistant Principal and Principal of Julius E. Sprauve School, named in honor of his father. He also found time to attend NYU to receive his certification as a school counselor, served in the VI. Legislature from 1970 – 1972, and served on the Humanities Council of the VI., Lutheran Social Services, Council of the Arts St. John, and music director of Nazareth Lutheran church. He now fulfills his love of teaching by offering English as a second language classes at his home.
